Catholic leaders attacked NYC’s plan to give away 26 million, subway-themed rubbers yesterday, calling the attempt to lower the AIDS rate “tragic and misguided.”
Another two journalists who oughta have their tushies paddled: first, our old classmate from NYU journalism school, Maria Bartiromo, CNBC’s puffy-lipped “money honey,” has been caught accepting private jet rides from ex-Citigroup honcho, Todd Thomson, a person she was supposed to be objectively covering. Commenting on Bartiromo’s “close friendship” with Thomson, Steve Adler, Editor-in-Chief of Business Week, [...]

Sex secrets from Judith Regan. One-time power editor for Harper Collins, recently sacked by media cadaver Rupert Murdoch, is examined by Michael Wolff in the March Vanity Fair. Regan, Wolff claims, is all about power, and once bragged of her hold over men: “What’s my secret? I’ll tell you my secret. I never let them come!”

Guns! Guns! Guns! In the decade since 1995, the NYPD has seized 70,000 illegal handguns. During that time, handguns killed 5,400 New Yorkers. No wonder Mayor Bloomberg has filed federal lawsuits again four gun dealers in Virginia that, according to undercover buyers, made illegal sales. Incredibly, the dealers think this is laugh-out-loud funny, offering what they call a “Bloomberg Gun Giveaway”–a two-for-one price gun raffle.

$1B tax break from Bloomberg. Sounds good, right? Till you find out “the average small-home owner — including hose in co-ops and condos — would save $201.” Let’s see, that’s about 40 happy meals.
We love this story. Jennifer Rubell, niece of the late Studio 54 owner, is suing Daniel Kim, her live-in boyfriend for being a pot-smoking, sex-obsessed, lout. According to the suit, Kim “repeatedly pressured me to allow him to film and photograph me while we were having sex..in [...]

MSG digs dirt on Ranger cheerleader: we don’t know who’s right, but something smells fishy about MSG execs who’ve dug up a ton of dirt on Courtney Prince, ex-captain of the Ranger cheerleaders (for those of you who haven’t been to a hockey game lately–yes, they have cheeerleaders on skates, who do cute things like ride the Zamboni and, shovels in hand, scoop up ice near the net). Prince, you might remember, filed a sex harassment lawsuit again the Garden. [...]

Public golf course owner in Brooklyn linked to Colombo soldier: So cool. The business association, mafia soldier, Craig Marino, has a chest tatoo that says “Fuck the police.” Because of our life-long aversion to the game (avid-golfer dad, teenage rebellion), we always suspected that golf course owners were freaky dudes with spaghetti-sauce-stained La Coste shirts.
New assault rap for Busta Rhymes. Another reason why “rap” is short for “crap.” According to cops, Rhymes beat up a driver who had the balls [...]

Atlantic Yards Project approved: A three-member state panel greenlights the Bruce Ratner’s $4.3 billion project that will not only include an arena for the Nets, but 16 office and residential towers that will strip that part of Brooklyn of anything resembling neighborhood. See what the Atlantic Yards Report says.
Bronx grandmother murdered by asphyxiation: we guarantee, this is the last you’ll hear of this story that merited a teensy box on page 16 of the Daily News. Thugs tied up 65-year-old [...]

Not a suicide–murder: Actress and Queens native Adrienne Shelly did not, as originally thought, commit suicide. A 5-foot Ecuadorian worker has reportedly confessed to the murder. According to the worker, Diego Pillco, Shelly became enraged over the noise he was making, confronted him, then slapped him. Pillco then punched her. We’re not sure about the sequence of events, and we sure don’t condone violence, but we have to wonder (and, no, we are not blaming the victim), why did Shelly [...]

Fossella Sinking: Vito Fossella, the bull-necked pretty boy fighting to retain his Staten Island congressional seat, has just received a C+ rating from The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Association, IAVA, a delicious development considering Fossella bases his reelection hopes on The War on Terror. We at Recharger are pleased that the guy who DailyGotham.com calls a “Bush lap dog, Social Security flip-flopper and scandal-ridden sleazebag,” got the rating from IAVA, the nation’s leading advocacy group for [...]
