HAVING DRIVEN A CAB FOR TEN YEARS — A HOBBY THAT WAS, BY TURNS, HUMILIATING AND FUN -- we have only sympathy for our yellow brethren. But sometimes those sympathies are tested. Take cabby Chowdhury Osman who, yesterday, found several jewelery display cases with 31 diamond rings in the trunk of his cab — then returned them to the owner. We can’t knock his honesty. What upsets us is that the lucky passenger had only tipped him 30 cents on an $11 ride! 30 measly cents she dug from her Dolce & Gabbana suede coat with fur trim. That’s less than 3%. Chowdhury broke rule 38.75 (a) in the Taxi and Limousine Commission rule book: “Driver not obligated to say ‘thank you’ to fares who tip under 10%. Driver obligated to physically harm fares who tip below 5%.” Anyway, Osman, with the aid of New York Taxi Workers Alliance, an organization we usually admire, tracked the woman down. Her reward to Osman? A $100 check.
Please god, maim this woman.
And shame on the Daily News for not revealing her name.
